The story of Maxx

Here is the story of how Maxx decided to come into this world.

I was at work on Thursday, 2/19/09. I got up from my desk to go to Wow Wingery to get a sweet tea to go with my lunch. (I had started craving sweet tea!) As I stood up, I felt a pop and a slight gush of liquid. I didn't know if I had gone to the bathroom on myself or if my water broke. No one was in their cubicle at work so I ran to the bathroom. When I got there I realized I was wet almost down to my knees. I was able to use the bathroom and control my bladder so I figured that it was go time. I ran back to my cube to grab my stuff. My co-workers were back so I told them. Everyone was so excited for me. They took a picture of me in my cube for my scrapbook and were all waving as I left.

I called Scott as I was leaving the building and told him to meet me at home. Good thing I only work 5 mins from home now. Next I called the dr's office who told me to go to Labor and Delivery and get checked out. Then I called my Mom (GranPat) and asked if she was ready to be a grandma today.

Scott and I met at home and gathered all the necessary essentials. We made it to the hospital around 12:30. They put me in an intial room and had me change into a gown. I knew that I wouldn't be sent home b/c there was water everywhere. The nurse checked and it was amniotic fluid. She then proceeded to check me. I was only about 3-4 cm dilated. She then decided to get the rest of the water out...which was not comfortable. It was nasty. Scott said it was the only time that he got quesy!

Next thing I knew I was being wheeled into the delivery room where I would stay until after Maxx arrived. I called all the important people to update them on the situation. GranPat and Great Maw-Maw El arrived around 1:15 or so (sorry if I get any of these times incorrect...the day started to be a blur at this point.) I can't remember who arrived next. Aunt Tess was there, along with Scott's Mom (Granny) and our two brothers (Will and Mark). (I do know that a few others arrived later in the day...Nanny Rach, my dad, Hans, and my sister, Cristy.) I think that is it. I really can't remember.)

I wasn't feeling any contractions or anything until after they put me in the delivery room. Maxx and I were both on monitors so I could see some contractions but didn't feel anything. But then they started...they were coming pretty fast (2-3 mins apart) and were very strong b/c Maxx was sitting on my cervix. I was only about 4-5 cms at around 2:30 but I decided to ask for the epidural. I wanted to wait until I was 6 cms but I figured why stay in pain if I was just going to get it anyways. At that point I wasn't concerned if it slowed my down or not I just wanted to be out of pain.

I think I got the epi around 3:00 or so. And it was not pleasant. The dr couldn't get it in the right place and had to give me a 2nd shot to numb the area. It hurt but I am so glad that I got it. After maybe an hour or so I started to feel some pain in my lower pelvis. I asked for more meds and received an increase in the dosage. It helped for a short while but then I started to feel even more pain on the left side really low. The nurse came back in around 5 and I asked for more b/c I was feeling the contractions in this one small area. AT that point she checked me again and I was 9 cms dilated and almost ready to go.

I think it was around 5:30 when they put everyone but Scott out of the room. I started pushing with the nurse around 6:00 or so. I was still feeling all the contractions in this one small area. It was very painful but I am kind of glad I was feeling it b/c knew when to push. I think my dr arrived around 6:20 or so. Maxx arrived at 6:42. I think I did about 10 good sets of pushes before Maxx was out. It felt like an eternity to me but I now realize how lucky I am. They put Maxx right on my belly and he was adorable. He was pretty clean and the sweetest little thing. He had a tight grip on finger and was holding on to my iv cord.

The nurse took Maxx and went to work on him. Scott assisted. My dr was finishing up with me. It is amazing how the pain was gone as soon as Maxx was delivered. They brought Maxx back to me and we attemped to breastfeed. It didn't work so we sat there for a little while just admiring him. Next all the family came back into the room. Everyone was so excited to meet Maxx. I think he stayed in the room with us until about 8:00 or so (really don't remember.) Then I let him go to the nursery b/c I was dying to find out what he weighed.

Everyone followed him and got some great pictures while I rested. Will and Rachael went off to get food. My first post baby meal was a fried shrimp po-boy at around 8:30 that night. (I know I said it would be sushi but this was just as good. I did have sushi the next day at the hospital.) At that point most of the family started leaving, except GranPat and Great Maw-Maw El. They stayed with us until I was moved into my postpartum room around 10:00 or so. Maxx was brought back to me a few mins after that. Of course GranPat and Great Maw-Maw El stayed so they could be the first to hold him! We sent Maxx to the nursery that night (and the next night) so we could get some sleep. Everything went wonderful after that, other than a few issues with breastfeading.

We were released from the hospital on Saturday. The first few days (and nights) were rough but things are getting better. Our family and friends have been so incredible. I don't know what I would do without our Mom's, grandma's, and Scott's Aunt Lisa. They have been cooking, cleaning, and doing laundry for us. We really do have an incredible family and are so thankful for them.

I guess that about wraps it up. I have been trying to type this for three days now and didn't have a chance. Here is a picture of my little guy who has been quietly sleeping so I could get this done. (yes, he is naked, and he stays naked for most of the day!)

And a big thanks to Aunt Vickie and Uncle Robbie who let us borrow Noah's cradle swing. Maxx loves it!

Maternity Pictures

I got a call from Tiffany at Blink Photography that our maternity pictures were ready to view online. I would prefer not to post the info on this public blog so email me or leave me a comment with your email address and I will get the info to you on how to view them. I stole a few pictures from the slideshow for a sneak preview.

21 days and counting down!

Yay. We made it to 37 weeks. Maxx is still sitting pretty so all is well. Dr's appt went good today. BP was sort of high when I arrived so he didn't let me leave until it was down to normal. I lost the weight that I gained last week. (which is unreal b/c I have been eating like crazy, well the stuff with no sodium..like candy and icees!) I am a hair short of 2 cm dilated and measuing at 38 weeks. The dr and I talked today about what will happen if Maxx doesn't make an appearance by my edd (03/06). We are going to schedule an induction for after the 6th when I go back next week. He said he would let me go until 41 weeks if I wanted to but I don't think I will wait that long. Scott and I will talk over the weekend and make a decision. Here is your weekly picture.

I am also going to share some pics of Boo. She decided that Maxx's toy box and blankets were where she wanted to take her afternoon nap. She is such a crazy cat!

4 more weeks to go.....

36 weeks now...under 30 days...yikes.

Dr's appt went well. Weight and BP are still good. I have not progressed much more than last week but that is ok with me. I can use these last few weeks to continue to prepare. My body is starting to wear out on me. My knees are still killing me and it is getting harder to do normal things. Doc told me that I need to start taking it easy. Stay off my feet as much as possible, no heavy lifting, no grocery shopping....yeah, that isn't going to happen. I don't think realizes that Scott is no help. I guess I will just do what I can and the rest won't get done for a while.

Here is a new picture. I don't see much difference. Until next week...

Oh..I also wanted to share a picture of Maxx's room. Scott finally put his letters on the wall last week. I *love* how they came out. The letters are the exact polka dots to match the bedding! I should have his room ready soon and will try to post a video (now that Uncle Will showed me how to use my new video camera!)
